Booker T. Washington was a former slave. He was just 6-7, when the emancipation took place. He understood the importance of a good education, and he worked to bring education to many of his race.
Was Washington’s program for gaining social acceptance for blacks an elitist program?
In my opinion the answer is no. Washington worked most of his adult life, trying to get people to accept black people. It was his entire goal in life. He believed that if you worked hard, and you were productive, it would be more likely for you to be accepted no matter your race.
