The death penalty was created in 1608 in America. It is out of date. These are peoples lives we are taking. Many people’s argument supporting the death penalty is that they are criminals. That a tiger doesn’t change its stripes. But how many people are the same person as they were five years ago let alone twenty, thirty. We all change it’s not a matter of “If” but, “when”. There is a lot of things that wake us up and causes us to change. Jail is a pretty good example in my opinion. What better way to repent than sitting in a jail cell repeating the crime over in your head for years?
Not to mention that whether our justice system cares to admit it or not, but there are innocent people in jail. If one of those people were to die due to the death penalty who does the fault lie with? Us, it lies with us. More specifically it lies with our government. I know for a fact that they don’t want or need that. They are already having troubles gaining and keeping the peoples trust, now add to the fact that they are putting innocent people to their death… it is not going to go well at all.
Now just because I can see the good in people doesn’t mean that my eyes are closed to the bad in them as well. The people in jail who are sociopaths, who can’t feel empathy, resulting in them not being able to grow to become a better person, those are the people who strive to make others hurt. They won’t stop because the law tells them to. That’s part of the excitement for them.
So there are different punishments for different crimes, and different perpetrators.
I truly believe in second chances, I can’t even count how many chances I have gotten, but I also believe that there are people in this world who will take advantage of you if you let them, so see the good but be aware of the bad.
